Blog Post #1: Caring For Your Carpet - Maintenance and Cleaning Tips

Cleaning and keeping your carpet maintained may seem difficult, but it is easier than you think. All it takes is to choose the right products and cleaning techniques to keep your carpet fresh and dust-free. Here are few tips for every homeowner on how to care for your carpet.

Choosing the Right Tools to Maintain Your Carpet:

Finding a good vacuum cleaner and choosing the best cleaning products are very important to keep your carpet maintained. Choose a vacuum cleaner with big wheels so that it easily moves on the carpet. A vacuum cleaner with rotator wheels and soft brushes works best on synthetic carpets. If you have pets in your house, then select a vacuum cleaner with pet hair suction feature. Change the bag often and clean the bristles to remove any entangled hair and debris.

Another important tool to keep your carpet clean is a steam cleaner. Although a vacuum cleaner removes dirt, debris and hair, it cannot be able to kill the germs and remove the inconspicuous materials on your carpet. A steam cleaner effectively cleans spots, spills and soiled areas on your carpet. Plus, the easy suction power leaves your carpet dry after every steam wash.

Choosing the Right Carpet Cleaning Products:

Carpet cleaning should always be done with the right cleaning products. Choose the cleaning products free of harmful chemicals. A highly alkaline cleaner can actually damage your wool carpet drastically. Even the harsh chemicals in these cleaning products can possibly damage a synthetic carpet too. Use mild soap, cleansing agents when deep cleaning and baking soda to keep your carpet fresh. For heavily stained areas, use a 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution for spot treatment.

Carpet Cleaning and Maintenance Tips:

- Always spot clean the affected area immediately after the spill. Dry the area with paper towels and clean the stain with a mild soapy cleanser.

- For a food spill, try to remove the solid materials first. Then use a spoon or sharp object to clean the stuck food on the carpet. Follow the spot cleaning procedure to remove the stain. If necessary, steam clean the area with a mild cleaning reagent.

- If you see stains even after cleaning, use the 3% hydrogen peroxide solvent to clean the area.

- Follow the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning process based on the type of carpet you have in your home.
